Budapest-born Erika Pal worked in Hungary's leading animation film studio Kecskemétfilm Ltd, before relocating to the UK with a dream of becoming an illustrator. She studied BA Illustration and Animation at London's Kingston University. During her second and third years, her picture book concepts were twice highly commended for the Macmillan Prize. She also won the national competition for Booktrust’s Big Picture logo.

After graduation in 2007, Azad's Camel, a picture book that is based on the plight of child camel jockeys in the Middle East, and which was originally her university project, was selected for publication by London-based Frances Lincoln Publishers.

In the past few years Erika has illustrated several books for Frances Lincoln, while pursuing her interest in experimental printmaking. While preparing future picture book ideas for publication, she is studying for an MA at Brighton University on the highly regarded Sequential Design and Illustration course.
